弩級の高倍率ズーム「RF30-600mm F4-8」を想定したような特許出願

2022年2月17日付けでキヤノンの気になる特許出願が公開。実施例は複数ありますが、全て「RF30-600mm F4-8」を想定したかのようなパラメータとなっています。A curious patent application from Canon dated February 17, 2022 is available. There are several examples of the implementation, all with parameters that seem to assume the RF30-600mm F4-8.

シグマはこの種の高倍率ズームを提供し続けており、現在も一眼レフ用レンズ「60-600mm F4.5-6.3 DG OS HSM」を販売中。しかし、このキヤノンの特許出願の実施例では、さらに広角30mmまで使うことができ、汎用性がさらに高くなっているのが魅力的。


ちなみに過去には「RF35-600mm F4-7.2」を想定したような特許出願も公開されています。広角側は僅かに狭いですが、全体的にレンズ全長が今回の実施例よりも短く、より現実的な選択肢に見えます。どちらもここ最近の特許出願であり、ひょっとしたらキヤノンはこのような超高倍率ズームレンズを真剣に検討しているのかもしれません。


A full-frame compatible zoom lens with extremely high magnification that covers a wide angle of 30mm to a super telephoto of 600mm. Is it intended to cover everything from landscapes to wildlife to aircraft with just one lens? It has a large aperture value and is dark, so it is likely to be used only in bright daylight.

Sigma continues to offer this type of all-in-one zoom, and is still selling its 60-600mm F4.5-6.3 DG OS HSM lens for SLRs. However, in this example of Canon's patent application, it is possible to use an even wider angle of 30mm, making it even more versatile and attractive.

A super all-in-one zoom that covers a wide angle range is unheard of, and we don't know if Canon is aiming to commercialize such a lens. It is unlikely that the patent application will be put to practical use, so do not get your hopes up too high. Also, naturally, the overall length of the lens is very long, surpassing Sigma's zoom lenses in optics alone. And the weight is likely to exceed 3 kg. It is great to be able to use a single lens from wide-angle to telephoto, but portability seems to be quite poor. However, with the exception of the front lens, the optics are compact, and the maximum aperture on the telephoto side is suppressed, so the lens may be unexpectedly lightweight.

Incidentally, a patent application has been published in the past that seems to envision the "RF35-600mm F4-7.2". The wide angle side is slightly narrower, but the overall length of the lens is shorter than this example, and it looks like a more realistic option. Both of these patent applications are recent, and perhaps Canon is seriously considering such an ultra-high-power zoom lens.
